Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLGA KOMENDA 1911 - 2008 Peacefully, at Calvary Place on Sunday, December 14, 2008, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was called home to be with her Lord, at the age of 97. Olga was predeceased by husband, James, brother Nick, sister Sonja and grandson Michael. Olga was born on October 30, 1911, in the hamlet of Dubiny, Rovno, Russia. She immigrated to Canada with her family as a teenager in 1929. Olga married James Komenda in October of 1932. They began their life together homesteading on a farm near Minitonas, then purchased the general store there. In 1943, they moved to a farm near Durban, later purchasing a general store in Benito. In 1968, they happily retired to Headingley where they lived until James' death in 1979. She continued to live there surrounded by caring neighbours and enjoying her large garden until 1987 when she moved to Winnipeg where she lived with her oldest daughter Lillian and her husband Wally. Olga was a constant witness and ambassador for Christ, never missing an opportunity for a kind word or helpful action. Everywhere she lived, she was actively involved in the life of the Church and the community. Her favourite book was the Bible and she was a devoted prayer warrior. Olga greatly enjoyed family gatherings where her words of wisdom and guidance were deeply appreciated. She loved singing, reading, picking berries, needlework, gardening, canning and cooking. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Lillian (Wally) Slama, her son Leonard (Judith), son Ben (Valerie), son Jim (Alixe), daughter Aileen (Lionel) Shewchuk; grand-children, Ken, Sherri, Melody (Tom) MacDonell, Deirdre (Brad) Logan, Heather, Jennifer (Dave) Wiebe, James, Paul (Mandy), Joshua, Kyle, Matthew and Stephen; great-grandchildren, Cole and Conner, as well as her siblings, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. The family, in deep appreciation, thank the compassionate staff at Calvary Place for their loving care provided to Olga. A memorial service will be held at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Avenue, at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2008 with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gideon's International, 501 Imperial Rd. N., Guelph, ON N1H 7A2. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
